Why in Wyoming

After a busy week at Annual Conference, I got on a plane to Wyoming to go visit my brother. I had decided since I was already going to be halfway to Wyoming, why not go visit Kyle?

My trip to Wyoming started with a hectic travel day. I made it on my plane in Grand Rapids with no problems, but when I landed at Denver, there was a thunderstorm and we had to sit on the tarmac and wait for it to pass before we could get off. I already had a tight connection in Denver and knew I was probably going to have to run through the airport, but then I was worried I was going to miss my connection. We finally got off the plane, I kindly asked the people around me to let me go first, and they were very gracious. If you have ever been to the Denver airport and had a connection, you might understand this. My flight landed at the far end of the one concourse, so I had to walk (but actually run) to the middle of the concourse to get the train to the next concourse. And then proceed to run to the far end of that concourse. I still had a bit of a cold at the time, and had to stop a few times to catch my breath and cough, but I ended up making it to the gate on time, only for my connection to be late.

But I did end up making it to Wyoming, where we stopped at Buc-ee's on the way to Laramie. I can't say I had a strong desire to go back to Buc-ee's but it is quite the experience. You can buy almost anything in the store, the bathrooms are an experience (a good one!) and their house made chips are delicious...so I might actually go back for them.

The next day Kyle showed me around University of Wyoming's campus and I met some of his friends for lunch. We then went hiking in the mountains because I really wanted to see snow in July. We made a few stops along the way to see some good photo spots, and then got to the park where we were going to hike. We only hiked out about a half mile because I was still a little under the weather and the altitude was getting to me, but we saw snow in July! We then went back to town and ate at Sweet Melissa's, which is a vegetarian restaurant that had an episode on Guy Fieri's Diners Drive-ins and Dives. It was possibly some of the best food I have had, and if you find yourself in Laramie, WY, it is a must go-to restaurant.

The next day we went to prison...but don't worry it was just the prison museum in Wyoming. I'm not big on museums, but this was an interesting one. I had a flight back home later that day, so we got back on the road so I could catch my flights.

The first leg of my trip back home was actually a bus from Fort Collins to Denver. When the bus gets you to the airport, you still have to go through security however, and naturally my bag got pulled, so I once again had to run to get to my gate on time. So now I have run through Denver's airport twice, and would be okay if I never saw that airport again (but spoiler, I do see it again later in the summer).

It was a quick two day trip, but it was great to see Wyoming and where Kyle lives!
