Ministry Experience
Staff Nurture and Care Leader
This role at Camp Swatara gave me the opportunity to lead a program staff retreat for all the summer counselors and the opportunity to have weekly 1-on-1 meetings with the summer staff. I also helped to adapt the curriculum to fit the needs of camp, as well as direct a week long camp for middle schoolers.
While I was at this position I learned about conflict management, leading a group of people, and planning events.
Camp Counselor
This role at Camp Swatara included taking care of campers ages eight to eighteen and adults with intellectual disabilities. My job was to make sure we were on time to different classes and meals. In addition I would help my campers plan their worship times. I also helped to teach Bible classes when needed. During this position I learned about caring for those around you, time management, and working with others.
Preaching
Since 2019, I have been periodically asked to preach at my home church. I have also been a guest preacher at other churches. I have gained experience speaking in front of a group of people, preparation and planning, biblical research, and relating biblical themes to the congregation.
Writing Curriculum
I have been writing curriculum since I started teaching Sunday School. It started off as adapting a curriculum I was given, but soon started to be writing curriculum for a specific group of students. I have since written a full curriculum for middle school students that can be adapted and repurposed for different needs.
Nonprofit Volunteer
During the school year I have been able to volunteer at nonprofits in the community. I volunteered at an inner city ministry that was focused on ministering to marginalized youth through a 1-on-1 mentorship program. I was able to learn about different styles of ministry, different ways to teach the Bible, and how to empathize with people who have experienced a very different life from myself.
Sunday School Teacher
In 2018 I started teaching lower elementary Sunday School using curriculum that was given to me. Since then I have begun to write my own lessons and curriculum for various different ages ranging from elementary to adult lessons. This has taught me how to teach on an age appropriate level, adapt curriculum to fit the needs of the students, and think on my feet during lessons.
Church of the Brethren National Youth Cabinet
My position on the National Youth Cabinet gave me the opportunity to help to plan and facilitate the Church of the Brethren National Youth Sunday. I was able to gain experience in planning, working as a team, and worship organization.
Church of the Brethren Young Adult Steering Committee
During my time on the Young Adult Steering Committee I am able to work with other young adults to plan a yearly denomination wide conference, along with smaller district events. I am able to learn about event planning and working with others.
